Compelling Belief

compellingbelief1Author: Stephen Arons

Summary: One of the great ironies of public schooling in the United States is its relentless capacity to stifle dissent. Although many parents believe their children are being educated amidst a rubble of collapsed cultural symbols and failed social values, the American system of compulsory education accommodates neither their attempts to revitalize it nor their efforts to extricate their children from it. Through a review of the variety of these conflicts, the author leads us to consider alternatives by which we might redress, legally, this suppression of intellectual freedom.
